The Vijayawada Zone of the APSRTC achieved record revenue through cargo shipment services this year, recording around ₹120 crore in revenue by October. This surpassed last year’s total revenue of ₹114 crore. The RTC authorities estimated that the revenue would cross ₹140 crore by the end of the year, marking a significant achievement in cargo shipment services.
Officials attributed the jump in revenue to the deployment of cargo vehicles directly at market areas, from where agricultural goods, mainly perishable items, are transshipped to various destinations. “RTC is directly deploying its goods vehicles at markets where farmers make bulk bookings to transport bananas, coconuts, and other goods, resulting in the transport corporation achieving record revenue. The majority of the agriculture bulk bookings come from Godavari districts,” an RTC official said.
The official elaborated that the revenue jumped due to increased cargo bookings, including individual parcel bookings. “Vijayawada region accounts for the majority of the parcel bookings, with the city being a commercial hub registering around 3,000 bookings in a day out of 10,000 total bookings recorded per day in the Vijayawada zone. Also, NTR district accounts for the majority of bookings among the overall cargo bookings in the
Vijayawada region,” the official further said.
Additionally, the official explained that the RTC authorities initiated measures to enhance the number of cargo booking counters at the Vijayawada bus station. “Currently, the bus station has two counters. To ensure that people don’t wait for a long time in the queue, we will add more counters besides developing other amenities at the booking counters,” the official added. According to the data, the Vijayawada bus station alone accounts for ₹7 lakh
cargo revenue in a day.
