    Global logistics major DHL Express is stepping up its India expansion as part of its global “Strategy 2030” roadmap, targeting sunrise sectors and infrastructure growth to drive business over the next five years.

    R S Subramanian, Senior Vice President for South Asia, said the company aims to increase its global revenue by 50% compared to its 2023 baseline, with India positioned as one of the top priority markets among 20 identified globally.

    “India will be among the top markets in terms of opportunity and scale,” Subramanian said, noting that the first phase of the strategy has already delivered strong execution through investments and acquisitions.

    The company is focusing on high-growth verticals such as life sciences, new energy, e-commerce, and digital sales. In life sciences, DHL has strengthened its capabilities with GDP-certified, temperature-controlled logistics infrastructure and the acquisition of CRYOPDP, enhancing its clinical trials and specialised pharma logistics services.

    “These are no longer niche segments—they are already contributing significantly and growing rapidly,” he said, highlighting life sciences and new energy as key growth drivers in India.

    In the renewable energy space, DHL sees untapped potential across the value chain, including installation and maintenance of solar and wind projects. Meanwhile, e-commerce continues to be a major growth engine, supported by investments in automation, network capacity, and last-mile delivery efficiency.

    India’s southern region plays a critical role in DHL’s operations, with Bengaluru emerging as a major gateway for South India. The city handles a substantial share of inbound and outbound shipments, backed by improved airport infrastructure and a strong regional logistics network.

    Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) account for nearly 60% of DHL’s India business. The company is expanding its engagement through digital tools, collaborations with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, and initiatives aimed at boosting global trade participation among SMEs.

    Despite ongoing geopolitical challenges, DHL has maintained operational continuity by reconfiguring supply chains and leveraging alternate routes. “Growth is the core focus—everything else is aligned to support that ambition,” Subramanian added.
