Transporters across India have warned that recent fuel price hikes are likely to push freight costs up by around 3%, increasing operating expenses for the road logistics sector and potentially impacting supply chains across industries.

Industry representatives said diesel accounts for a major share of trucking operating costs, and any sustained increase in fuel prices directly affects freight rates. Transport operators are expected to revise charges to offset higher expenses related to fuel consumption, vehicle operations and long-distance cargo movement.

Logistics companies noted that the increase could influence transportation costs for sectors such as agriculture, FMCG, manufacturing, retail and e-commerce, where road transport plays a critical role in cargo distribution. Higher freight charges may also add pressure to overall supply chain costs and product pricing.

Transport associations said fleet operators are already facing rising expenses linked to toll charges, maintenance costs and insurance premiums. Analysts added that if fuel prices remain elevated for an extended period, logistics providers may seek further freight adjustments to maintain profitability and operational stability.
