Ambuja Cements Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with UK-based clean technology company Leilac Limited to explore one of the world’s largest commercial-scale pathways for low-carbon cement production at its Sanghipuram plant in Kutch, Gujarat.

The collaboration will evaluate the deployment of advanced carbon capture and hybrid electrification technologies aimed at significantly reducing carbon emissions from cement manufacturing. The project is expected to enhance energy efficiency while supporting the transition toward cleaner and more sustainable cement production processes.

The initiative forms a key part of Ambuja Cements’ broader decarbonisation strategy and supports the company’s Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Commenting on the partnership, Karan Adani said the collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to assessing next-generation technologies that can address process emissions, improve operational efficiency, and enable long-term sustainable growth.

If successfully implemented, the project could establish a scalable model for lower-emission cement production, offering potential benefits not only for India’s cement sector but also for the global industry as it seeks to accelerate decarbonisation efforts.

The cement industry is among the most carbon-intensive sectors globally, making carbon capture and electrification technologies critical to achieving climate goals and advancing sustainable industrial development.
