Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said the state aims to contribute 30% of India’s ambitious $30-billion seafood export target, leveraging its strong aquaculture base, extensive coastline, and seafood processing infrastructure. The announcement was made during the National Workshop on Seafood Exports being held in Visakhapatnam.
Naidu highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s dominant position in India’s fisheries sector, noting that the state already accounts for a significant share of the country’s seafood exports and aquaculture production. He emphasized the need to focus on value addition, traceability, quality certification, and modern processing facilities to enhance export competitiveness and secure higher returns from international markets.
The two-day workshop, jointly organized by the Department of Fisheries, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Government of Andhra Pradesh, brings together policymakers, exporters, processors, industry associations, startups, and financial institutions to formulate a roadmap for boosting seafood exports. Discussions are centered on improving supply chains, expanding value-added product offerings, strengthening certification systems, and integrating MSMEs into the export ecosystem.
India’s seafood exports have shown strong growth in recent years, supported by government initiatives aimed at enhancing production, infrastructure, and export competitiveness. The Centre has identified seafood as a key component of the country’s blue economy strategy and is working with states to expand global market access while improving sustainability and traceability standards.
With Andhra Pradesh already contributing more than 30% of India’s seafood exports and serving major markets such as the United States, China, Europe, and the Middle East, the state is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving the national export target over the coming years.
