Hapag-Lloyd has announced an Emergency Operations Charge for feeder services in the Middle East, citing ongoing regional disruptions and higher operating costs linked to volatile shipping conditions. The surcharge is aimed at offsetting additional expenses arising from schedule changes, security measures and network adjustments.

The carrier said the new charge will apply to cargo moving on designated feeder routes across affected Middle East markets. Rates and implementation dates may vary depending on trade lane, origin and destination, with customers advised to check local tariff notices and booking updates.

Shipping lines operating in the region have faced mounting challenges including port congestion, rerouting, insurance cost increases and tighter vessel availability. Feeder networks have been particularly impacted as operators work to maintain connections between mainline hubs and regional ports.

Industry observers say the move reflects broader pressure on carriers to recover disruption-related costs while preserving service reliability. Shippers moving cargo through the Middle East may need to reassess budgets, transit times and routing strategies as regional uncertainty continues.
