According to the statement, the last vessel, MT GAZ GMS, departed on 29 June 2025, marking the resolution of a prolonged and complex maritime crisis. The situation arose following an airstrike on 17 April 2025, which severely damaged port infrastructure and led to an enforced blockade by local authorities in northern Yemen, who insisted on complete cargo discharge before granting sailing permissions.

Furthermore, several vessels had remained immobilized at the port since December 2024, with crews enduring extended periods of uncertainty. As stated, the resolution was made possible through sustained diplomatic efforts led by the Indian Embassy in Yemen, with strong support from Indian Missions in London, Riyadh and Washington D.C., alongside continuous coordination by this Directorate.

To remind, in early May, UN International Maritime Organization Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez voiced serious concern over the safety of seafarers, following reports from the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations that vessels were being forcibly held despite possessing valid clearance. Reported incidents included warning shots and armed personnel boarding ships.
