Myanmar President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s leading container handling port, along with a delegation of 67 officials, highlighting Myanmar’s interest in strengthening maritime ties and learning from India’s port development experience.
The delegation was welcomed by JNPA Chairperson Gaurav Dayal and senior officials of the port. During the visit, JNPA presented an overview of its port infrastructure, operational capabilities, capacity expansion plans, sustainability initiatives, and long-term development strategy.
A key focus of the presentation was the development of the Vadhvan Port Project, which is being developed as one of India’s largest deep-draft ports and is expected to play a significant role in enhancing the country’s maritime trade capacity.
Speaking on the occasion, Dayal said the visit provided an opportunity to showcase India’s maritime capabilities, JNPA’s operational excellence, and future-oriented infrastructure projects. He expressed confidence that the engagement would contribute to strengthening maritime and trade cooperation between India and Myanmar while promoting greater regional connectivity and economic collaboration.
The Myanmar delegation also toured port facilities to gain first-hand insights into cargo handling operations, logistics infrastructure, and the integrated ecosystem that supports international trade through JNPA.
The visit underscores the growing importance of maritime partnerships in fostering trade, connectivity, and sustainable economic development across the Indo-Pacific region.
JNPA currently operates five container terminals and continues to expand its capabilities through infrastructure development, coastal connectivity initiatives, and the ongoing development of the Vadhvan Port Project, which is set to emerge as a major gateway for global trade.
