Ningbo Ocean Shipping has marked a major milestone in its regional expansion strategy with the successful launch of its first India service, extending its international container liner network into South Asia.
On May 24, the vessel X PRESS Capella made its maiden call at Nhava Sheva, officially inaugurating the company’s new Ningbo–Nhava Sheva–Mundra service. The new route establishes a direct maritime connection between Ningbo-Zhoushan Port and two of India’s most strategically important west coast gateway ports.
The service includes calls at Nhava Sheva, India’s largest container port, and Mundra Port, one of the country’s leading integrated commercial ports. The direct linkage is expected to provide Chinese exporters with improved access to India’s northwestern industrial and manufacturing hinterland through faster and more efficient sea connectivity.
The India service launch represents a significant step in Ningbo Ocean Shipping’s ongoing transformation from a regional East and Southeast Asian carrier into a broader Asia-focused network operator. Over recent years, the company has steadily expanded its footprint across Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia, while also strengthening its Middle East presence and establishing overseas platforms such as Ningbo Ocean Shipping Japan.
By entering the South Asian market, the company is further diversifying and strengthening its intra-Asia service network, positioning itself to tap into growing trade volumes between China and India.
The development also reinforces the role of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port as a key maritime gateway linking China’s coastal manufacturing hubs with emerging Asian markets.
Industry observers view the launch as more than just a capacity expansion initiative, highlighting Ningbo Ocean Shipping’s broader strategy of building a denser, more connected and strategically integrated regional liner network across Asia.
