Global logistics operator DP World has launched a new intermodal rail service connecting Serbia and Germany, aiming to strengthen cargo connectivity and support the growing demand for efficient inland freight movement across Europe.
The newly introduced service is designed to provide faster and more reliable transport for containers and other cargo moving between Southeast Europe and one of the continent’s largest industrial economies. By integrating rail with DP World’s broader logistics and terminal network, the company seeks to offer shippers a seamless door-to-door transport solution.
According to the company, the rail corridor will help streamline supply chains for manufacturers and exporters by reducing transit times and lowering dependence on long-haul trucking. The intermodal route is expected to handle a range of cargo including industrial goods, automotive components, consumer products, and general containerised freight.
The initiative also aligns with broader efforts across Europe to promote rail-based logistics, which is considered more environmentally sustainable than road transport. By shifting more cargo to rail, companies can cut carbon emissions while improving supply chain resilience.
DP World noted that the service will enhance trade flows between Central and Southeast Europe, providing businesses in Serbia with improved access to major European markets while offering German industries a more efficient gateway to the Balkans region.
The launch is part of DP World’s ongoing strategy to expand its integrated logistics network across Europe, combining ports, inland terminals, rail connections and digital platforms to create more flexible supply chain solutions for global customers.
