V.O. Chidambaranar Port organised Safety Workshop 2026 with a strong focus on operational safety, workplace protection and risk management across port and cargo handling activities. The programme brought together port officials, terminal operators, logistics stakeholders, safety experts and workers to discuss best practices for improving safety standards in maritime and port operations.
The workshop covered key areas including cargo handling safety, emergency response preparedness, fire prevention, hazardous material management, equipment maintenance and occupational health practices. Officials said the initiative was aimed at strengthening awareness among port users and ensuring safer working conditions across all operational zones within the port.
Port authorities highlighted the growing importance of safety management as cargo volumes, mechanisation and vessel traffic continue to increase at Indian ports. Participants discussed the need for strict adherence to safety protocols, regular training programmes and the adoption of advanced monitoring systems to minimise workplace accidents and operational disruptions.
Industry experts at the workshop also emphasised the role of digital technologies, automation and predictive maintenance systems in improving operational safety and reducing risks in cargo handling and marine operations. Sessions included demonstrations, technical discussions and case studies related to accident prevention and emergency coordination.
VOC Port has been expanding its infrastructure and cargo handling capabilities as part of broader efforts to strengthen maritime logistics and industrial connectivity in southern India. Officials said maintaining high safety standards remains critical for ensuring operational efficiency, workforce welfare and sustainable port growth.
The workshop forms part of ongoing initiatives by Indian ports to align with international maritime safety standards and improve resilience across logistics and shipping operations.
