Minister for export proportion, Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi on Wednesday said that UP’s new export promotion policy (2025-30) will turn out to be a boon for the state.

“The policy will go a long way in doubling exports from the state, which will also increase on the national scale,” he said. The policy targets increasing exports from 21 billion dollars in 2024 to 50 billion dollars by 2030. “This will benefit exporters associated with the one districts one product scheme,” he said.

One of the key advantages will show up in the form of a boost to infrastructure development. “Dedicated support for infrastructure development and strengthening of logistics will help in positioning the state better in global markets, face competition and reduce transaction costs,” he said.

Mentioning that it will propel the expansion of the exporter base, Nandi said: “The policy aims to increase the number of registered exporters by 50%, ensuring broader participation from districts and sectors, including MSMEs and first-time exporters.”

Nandi said that for this, the policy addresses the challenge of UP being a double landlocked state. “This usually means that exporters from UP have to pay a higher cost to transport their products compared to their counterparts from coastal states,” he said, adding, “the policy’s provisions for gateway port and air freight assistance will directly reduce transportation costs, improve the price competitiveness of UP’s products in global markets, and make exports viable for small and medium enterprises.

Moreover, he said, “Expansion of export activities and diversification of the export basket will create new livelihood opportunities, particularly for youth and women, thereby contributing to inclusive growth”.

Citing a multi-country World Bank study, Nandi said that “a 10% increase in exports is associated with an increase in employment levels (3.1%), labour earnings (3.9%) and productivity levels (0.95%).”

“Since the state aims to increase its exports from 22 billion dollars to 50 billion dollars, one can say that while chasing the ambitious target, UP will see substantial job creation in the MSME sector,” Nandi said.

He added that more jobs will be created for women in the textile and garments sector, which is a priority sector for UP.

He said that measures have been introduced to develop the export sector. “Dedicated schemes for e-commerce, services exports and niche sectors will diversify UP’s export portfolio and open access to emerging global markets,” he said.
